My reason for choosing the profession of Occupational Therapy
OT is a career that allows for one-on-one support and I value seeing each person in the world as an individual. I think people are often energized and motivated by working on things they care about and in a way that fits them best. When I experienced working with kids as a para and being able to tailor their work and meet specific needs, I felt my passion and excitement grow as I got to see them progress and have small wins. I knew that I wanted more training to extend that experience into other spheres of life and in even more impactful ways.
My reason for choosing to attend the Occupational Therapy program at Rockhurst
I attended Rockhurst University as an undergraduate and loved my experience. The Jesuit tradition has a focus on reflective learning that lead to deep personal growth for me as a student and as a person. I knew this approach would be an asset to preparing for my career. The size of the University allows for personal connection to professors and leaders in the university and makes the education process feel personal and caring.
Professional Goals
My professional goal is to serve a small community with occupational therapy services that are needed in a variety of settings, making services accessible even in more rural communities.
I also have a goal of learning more of the skills related to hand therapy through fieldwork and by 2028 achieve Certified Hand Therapist.
Personal Goal
My personal goal is to move to a rural community and by the year 2025, own a small farm with a dairy cow, a few hogs, and chickens.
